One of my first Yoga teachers was deeply focused on body alignment. He would spend a long time moving from student to student—pushing shoulders back, lifting hips, adjusting thighs—you name it!

Some of his students loved this hands-on approach, while others… not so much.

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of hands-on adjustments. In fact, I find some of them too intimate and, at times, even risky. For me, Yoga is an opportunity for the body to express what it naturally wants to do. Rather than forcing our bodies to fit into the shapes of postures, we should adapt the postures to suit our unique anatomy.

Of course, micromanaging alignment is a key feature of some Yoga styles, and many yogis thrive in that structured approach. Personally, I find that receiving verbal cues about where my body parts should be helps me stay present and reconnect with myself—without the need for excessive external adjustments.

Yoga should feel empowering, intuitive, and safe, allowing each individual to explore movement in a way that respects their own body. After all, no two bodies are the same, and our practice should honour that uniqueness.

About Me

Hello, I'm Eve Oliveira, a passionate Yoga teacher and complementary therapist with over two decades of experience.

While I am trained in various Yoga styles, my heart truly belongs to Hatha Yoga. I love guiding my students through stretches and postures, helping them connect with their breath and become more mindful of their bodies.

My main focus is to encourage students to explore different expressions of Yoga poses, always respecting their unique abilities.

My goal is to provide a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable atmosphere where students feel empowered to take charge of their practice with my gentle guidance.

When I'm not on the mat, I work as a complementary therapist, offering massages, reflexology, reiki, and facials. I also share my expertise as a tutor of complementary therapies at a college in Devon.
